There are many reasons why we may seek the help of a therapist. Sometimes it can be because we feel overwhelmed, defeated, or find ourselves in crisis, due to relationship difficulties, employment changes or life-transitions. Sometimes we feel isolated and painfully stuck and may be having difficulty understanding why, or we may be struggling to work through challenging personal and relational issues. Perhaps we have lost touch with important aspects of ourselves, or are getting caught up in rigid or self-defeating behavioural patterns.
Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, it can offer the opportunity to overcome these difficult feelings by helping you deepen your self-awareness, identify and challenge unhelpful patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck, and to create fresh ways of moving forward. You can then actively and intentionally make choices to live more purposefully, with increased resilience and the ability to be more flexible in response to life’s unpredictability and uncertainty.
Engaging in therapy takes courage, compassion, honesty and trust. While at times it can be challenging, it is always respectful and collaborative. No matter what other useful and important things are offered in therapy, its effectiveness rests upon the relationship between client and therapist. So it is very important to me that we create a safe framework in which we both feel comfortable and willing to relate and engage with one another.
An initial assessment session will allow us to discuss what is bringing you to therapy, your expectations, needs and how I may best be of help. This session can give us a feel for how we may work together.
If we feel it is a good fit, we can arrange to start as soon as is mutually convenient. We would review, at regular intervals, how therapy is meeting your needs and, if necessary, reassess our goals.
